Misc & Everything Else

If it has a circuit board, send it my way. This drawer holds the work that does not fit the other four pages: remote support, networks, printers, monitors and one-off soldering jobs, across Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point. Mail it in, drop it off, or book a house call. Every number below is a starting price.

Hourly and remote

Remote support session

Software problems, email that will not connect, printer drivers, a slow machine, walking you through something on your own screen. $65 for the first thirty minutes and $95 an hour after that. No driving, no drop-off, and I can do this outside shop hours by arrangement.

from $65

Bench rate for work that does not fit a line item

$95 an hour, billed in fifteen minute steps after the first hour. This covers anything on the sheet that has to be quoted by time instead of by job.

from $95

Board-level bench rate

$125 an hour for microsoldering and board work that has to be quoted by time. That is a microsoldering job, not a parts swap, so it is different equipment and a different skill and it is priced that way everywhere that does it.

from $125

Home and small office

Home and small office network setup

Router and mesh setup, dead spots, a network that keeps dropping, printers that will not stay connected, wiring cleanup. Starts at $119, plus the house call fee if I am coming to you. Geek Squad's published in-home network setup is around $150 and less again for their membership customers, so check their current number before you book me for a plain router setup.

from $119

Printer setup and repair

Printer setup, driver mess, scanning that stopped working, paper feed and roller problems. Starts at $89. Not worth doing on a $60 inkjet and I will say so before you pay me anything, because the $65 diagnostic is not charged when I decline the job.

from $89

Data transfer between devices

Everything off the old computer or phone and onto the new one. Starts at $89. Geek Squad's published in-store transfer is around $100 and their in-home version runs into the hundreds depending on how much data you have. Check their current numbers, they move.

from $89

Hardware and one-offs

Monitor board-level repair

Monitor that will not power on, flickers, or has a backlight that has died. Board-level repair on the power board or the driver board, starting at $149. I do not work on televisions and I will refer you out for those. The economics do not work on a set that costs $300 to replace and I have no way to move one.

from $149

Small electronics and odd jobs

A connector torn off something, a broken solder joint, a cable that needs making, a device nobody else will look at. One hour minimum at the $95 bench rate, and the $65 diagnostic is credited in full toward the repair. I quote it properly once I have seen it.

from $95

Getting it here and getting rid of it

Pickup and drop-off inside the Triad

$35 one way or $59 both ways, anywhere in Greensboro, Winston-Salem or High Point. Waived on repairs over $400. This is instead of a storefront, not on top of one.

from $35

Secure drive wipe and disposal

Secure wipe of a drive before you sell or donate a machine, or a drive physically destroyed and disposed of. $29 a drive. If you are handing me a whole machine to get rid of, ask, because it depends what it is.

from $29

Fees, hours and service area

Diagnostic

$65, credited in full toward the repair. Nothing is charged if I decline the job, refer it out, or cannot recover your data. If you get a quote and decide not to proceed, the $65 covers the bench time.

$65

House call

$149 covers the trip and the first hour on site, then $125 an hour. The radius is 25 miles from High Point 27265, which takes in all of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point. Past 25 miles it is $1 a mile counted both ways, and I tell you that number before I leave.

from $149

Hours and service area

Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm, working out of High Point, NC 27265. Outside those hours by request for an added fee. I cover the Piedmont Triad, which is Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point, by mail-in, drop-off or house call.

Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm

How it works

1

Get it to me

Whatever it is, if it plugs in or charges, it qualifies. Ship it, drop it off, or book a house call. Start with a repair request.

2

$65 diagnostic

I test it, find the actual fault and send you a price before any work starts. The $65 is credited in full toward the repair.

3

Honest call

If the repair is not worth what it costs, I say so and tell you what I would do instead.

4

Back to you

Pick it up, I ship it back, or I return it on a house call.

Got something weird?

I like weird. Mail it in, drop it off, or book a house call anywhere in the Triad. Questions? Email [email protected].
