Ports and power
HDMI port replacement, PS5 and Xbox Series X or S
Ripped or bent HDMI port on a PS5, PS5 Slim, Xbox Series X or Series S. The old port comes off and a new one goes on. Starts at $139. Microsoft's published out-of-warranty fee is a flat $299 and they send back a refurbished unit. Sony's out-of-warranty service is reported around $250 and is often a replacement rather than a repair, though that figure is secondary sourced and worth checking yourself. Either way you may not get your own console back.

Console with no power, no video, or a beep code, where the power supply itself checks out. Every shop that publishes this publishes a range rather than a flat fee, because the fault is unknown until it is found. Starts at $179 and I quote the rest once I know what failed. The $65 diagnostic is credited in full toward the repair.

Console cleaning and thermal service
Three levels. $45 for a dust-out and fan clean without a full teardown. $85 for a full interior teardown and clean. $109 for the teardown plus fresh thermal paste and pads on an Xbox, a PS4 or a gaming PC.

The PS5 uses liquid metal instead of thermal paste and it degrades and pumps out over time. Full teardown, clean, fresh liquid metal, new thermal pads, reassembly and a load test. Starts at $149. Liquid metal is electrically conductive, so it shorts a board if any of it goes where it should not, and that is what the price reflects.

PS5 disc drive repair and realignment
Disc drive that will not take a disc, will not eject, or grinds. I repair and realign the original drive rather than swap it. PS5 disc drives are paired to the console board, and as far as I can establish a donor drive will not read discs without a re-pair path, so keeping your original drive in the console sidesteps the problem. If that changes I will say so.

Xbox Series X, Xbox One, One S or One X optical drive that will not read, will not take a disc or grinds. Starts at $129. Xbox drives do not carry the pairing problem the PS5 has, so a replacement drive is a real option here.

The USB-C port is desoldered and replaced, on original Switch, OLED or Lite. This is board-level work rather than a plug-in part, which is why it is priced like board work. Starts at $119.

Broken Joy-Con rail, a Joy-Con that will not connect or charge, or a damaged charge contact. Starts at $89. On drift specifically, Nintendo repairs Joy-Con drift free of charge in most cases even out of warranty. Send it to them first. I am not going to charge you for something the manufacturer does for nothing.

Controller stick module replacement
Stick drift fixed with a like-for-like module. $49 for one stick, $79 for both. The replacement is the same design as the one that just failed, so if you would rather not repeat this, read the next card.

Drifting stick replaced with a hall effect or TMR module instead of the potentiometer design the controller shipped with. $89 for a DualSense, $99 for an Xbox controller, both sticks included, return shipping included. The stock module uses a wiper riding on a carbon track. Hall effect and TMR modules read position magnetically, so there is no wiper and no track. Different failure modes, and I am not making a claim about how long it lasts. This one travels well, mail it in from anywhere.

Full capacitor replacement on retro hardware. NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, Game Gear, PS1, PS2, original Xbox and the handhelds. Starts at $89 and moves with how many caps the board has.

Install of RetroGEM, N64Digital, UltraHDMI, NESRGB, Tim Worthington and similar kits. $119 labor and up depending on the console and the mod. You buy the kit or I order it for you at cost plus handling.

Diagnostic
$65, credited in full toward the repair. Nothing is charged if I decline the job, refer it out, or cannot recover your data. If you get a quote and decide not to proceed, the $65 covers the bench time.
$65House call
$149 covers the trip and the first hour on site, then $125 an hour. The radius is 25 miles from High Point 27265, which takes in all of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point. Past 25 miles it is $1 a mile counted both ways, and I tell you that number before I leave.

Board-level repair
Microsoldering under the microscope where that is what the fault needs, rather than swapping the whole console.
Tested, then back to you
Load tested on a game before it goes back. Pick it up, I ship it back, or I return it on a house call.
