Computer & Laptop Repair
Laptops, desktops and custom builds for Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point. If it will not turn on, runs slow, or took a splash of coffee, I will find out why. Mail it in, drop it off, or book a house call. Every number below is a starting price, and where a part is involved I quote the part separately once I know your exact model.
Laptop repairs
Laptop screen replacement
Cracked or dead laptop screen. $119 labor plus the panel, and I price the panel on the day you book because they vary enormously. A standard 1080p non-touch panel runs $35 to $110. Touch, 4K and OLED panels run $150 to $320 and I quote those once I have the part number off the back of your panel.
from $119Laptop battery replacement
Swollen or dead laptop battery. $129 installed with an aftermarket pack on common models. OEM Dell, HP and Lenovo packs cost more and I quote the pack separately once I know your exact model. MacBook packs are glued down and start at $199.
from $129DC power jack, plug-in harness type
On a lot of laptops the power jack is a plug-in pigtail. That is a teardown and a swap, and it starts at $99. If yours is soldered to the board, see the board-level section below. The $65 diagnostic tells us which one you have and it is credited in full toward the repair.
from $99Laptop hinge and case repair
Hinges that have torn their mounting posts out of the plastic, cracked palm rests, broken lid corners. Starts at $109. Most of these are a full teardown with the mounting points rebuilt using epoxy and threaded inserts, and that is where the time goes. Computer Warehouse publishes $90 for hinges and casing and Intrex publishes $189 for a complex notebook assembly, so this sits between the two.
from $109Laptop keyboard replacement
Dead keys, spilled-on keyboard, keys that repeat or stick. $89 labor plus the keyboard. On many laptops the keyboard is riveted into the top case, which turns it into a full upper-assembly swap, and I tell you which version yours is before ordering anything.
from $89Laptop fan and cooling replacement
Grinding, rattling or dead cooling fan, or a machine shutting down under load. $109 labor plus the fan. Thermal paste and pads go back on properly as part of the job rather than being billed as a second visit.
from $109Thermal service, repaste and clean
Loud fans, hot machine, throttling under load. New thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, heatsink and fan cleaned out, thermal pads replaced where they belong, SMART check on the drive, and temperature readings before and after so you can see what actually changed. Starts at $109.
from $109Chromebook screen and hinge repair
Guilford County Schools hands out Chromebooks by the thousand and the screens and hinges are what break. Screen replacement is $89 labor plus the panel. Hinge and lid repair is $79. If the machine is school-managed and enrolled, check with the school first, because they may replace it for less than I can fix it.
from $89Desktops, builds and upgrades
Custom PC build
Build from your parts list. Assembly, cable management, BIOS setup, operating system install and a stress test before it goes back to you. Starts at $139.
from $139Desktop power supply replacement
Power supply swap with a check of the rails and the rest of the machine before I hand it back. $49 labor plus the unit.
from $49Memory upgrade
Memory upgrade, tested before it goes back to you. $39 labor plus the modules. Fair warning, memory prices roughly tripled through 2026 and a 16GB laptop module is around $100 now, so the modules are most of the bill and the labor is the small part.
from $39SSD upgrade with data migration
Move from a hard drive to an SSD, or to a bigger one, with everything cloned over. $89 labor plus the drive. Drive prices are moving fast right now, a 1TB NVMe is around $160 as of August 2026 where it was under $50 a year ago, so I price the drive on the day you book.
from $89Board-level and MacBook work
DC power jack soldered to the board
A power jack soldered to the mainboard has to be desoldered and a new one fitted without cooking the board. Starts at $165. Intrex in Greensboro publishes Notebook Solder Work: N/A on their own price list and Computer Warehouse only does component-level work on desktops, so this is the job the Triad currently sends away.
from $165Laptop board-level repair
No power, no charge, a dead USB or HDMI port, a power rail that is not coming up. Component-level repair on the mainboard, starting at $199. Computer Warehouse charges $150 to $190 in labor to swap a laptop board, plus the cost of the board itself. Intrex charges $99 to $129 to install one and publishes Notebook Solder Work: N/A on the same page, so they cannot repair the one you have. The $65 diagnostic is credited in full toward the repair.
from $199MacBook logic board repair
MacBook that will not power on, will not charge, or drank something. Board-level repair starting at $299. Apple and the local Apple authorized shops do not repair these, they replace the board or the machine. National mail-in specialists charge $300 to $600 for the same work.
from $299MacBook keyboard and trackpad replacement
Trackpad replacement starts at $179 and keyboard replacement starts at $249. On most modern MacBooks the keyboard is riveted into the top case, so the honest version of that job is a top-case swap and I say so before ordering. Parts are quoted on top.
from $179Laptop liquid damage teardown and clean
Teardown, ultrasonic clean of the board, corrosion removal, reassembly and test. Starts at $149. If a component died in the spill, I quote that separately after the clean and before I do it. I do not charge extra just because it is liquid.
from $149Software, data and setup
Virus and malware removal
Full malware cleanup with your files backed up first, Windows updates brought current, and a reinstall if the machine is too far gone to clean. Starts at $139 and the backup is included rather than billed by the hour after the fact.
from $139Operating system reinstall, setup and data migration
Fresh Windows or macOS install, drivers, your apps and your files moved over. Also covers setting up a new computer and moving everything across from the old one. Starts at $119.
from $119Windows password reset and locked account recovery
Locked out of your own Windows machine, a local account you cannot get into, a Microsoft account tangle. $69. I will ask you to prove the machine is yours before I touch it.
from $69Fees, hours and service area
Diagnostic
$65, credited in full toward the repair. Nothing is charged if I decline the job, refer it out, or cannot recover your data. If you get a quote and decide not to proceed, the $65 covers the bench time.
$65House call
$149 covers the trip and the first hour on site, then $125 an hour. The radius is 25 miles from High Point 27265, which takes in all of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point. Past 25 miles it is $1 a mile counted both ways, and I tell you that number before I leave.
